This is a typical article from the Telegraph!
The Headline suggests that its all about Global warming, but lets take a look at what is actually said.
“The charity examined more than 6,000 climate-related disasters in the last 20 years in order to calculate how many people on average suffer as a result of floods, droughts and other catastrophes.
At the moment around 252 million people are affected by “natural disasters” – not including earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other emergencies unrelated to the weather.”
So 252 million people are affected by weather based natural disasters – no suggestion here that its anything to do with Climate Change, these disasters have always happened and always will.
“However this number is set to increase by 54 per cent to 375 million every year by 2015 as the number of people living in vulnerable areas like Bangladesh increases and levels of poverty mean more die. Densely populated slums in coastal cities like Mumbai mean millions more people are living in flimsy shacks and are at risk of water-born disease caused by rising temperatures.”
Ok so already the headline is shown to be a bit of a lie. There is no suggestion in this that there will be an increase due to some level of completely unquantifiable “Global Warming” but actually seems to be about population density and poverty!!!!
“In addition, the aid agency wants the world to commit at least $50 billion (£34 billion) every year to helping poorer countries adapt to global warming as part of any international agreement decided at the end of the year to tackle climate change.”
Finally a mention of Global Warming (oops sorry climate change – best not suggest that its getting warmer someone might disprove it, lets be vague instead)! This is where the whole article then becomes about Climate Change, presumably because poor people suffering isn’t enough for us to do something about it. We couldn’t possibly give them aid just to help the situation as it is but if there is the impending doom of Climate Change then we will undoubtedly raise a few Billion and build them some wind turbines! Lets not let the poor countries develop industry and get out of poverty and suffering as they will have to burn fossil fuels to do that!
To top it all off we then have a comment from our Climate Change Minister!!!! What next Minister for UFO’s and Aliens? What about Werewolves, we should have a Minister for them right???
